History of Delta Quintet In spring 1998 Leo Hulshof invited some musicians to play a classical concert on April,17 in a conference centre in Zeist, The Netherlands. He used to form project ensembles, and this time it was on the occasion of a congress of his wife Els. After the concert the ensemble played in the foyer salon music, for which Peter van der Veer had made the musical arrangements. The music was appriciated so much that the emsemble members got ideas to work further together in ensembles for classical music and salon music. Marjan van Nieuwenhuijzen suggested the name "Delta Quintet" for a salon ensemble.
The first salon ensemble members were (as in Zeist): Carolien Hulshof (violin I), Marjan van Nieuwenhuijzen (violin II), Tom Hasselton (viola), Peter van der Veer (cello), Leo Hulshof (piano). As soon as the start of the ensemble became well-known, the group got an invitation to play its music on a wedding reception in a tavern in Rijswijk. That was on May,22 1998, which is the date of first performance as Delta Quintet salon-ensemble. During the following years Peter van der Veer wrote a hundred music-arrangements with a specific deltaquintet-style: warm sound and solos for all instruments. In addition more attention arose for classical music als a part of a salon music programme, in the form of concert pieces with own soloist.
Delta Quintet has also a member of honour: in 2005 Betsy Mortiers got the title of DQ-violonist of honour, as an appreciation for her initiatives and performance in organising our Aruba tour.
